First thing is first - figure out what you want in terms of what an attorney can actually help you get
First, you need to define , including if you are being sued and .
If you want something from somebody else, meaning you are plaintiff, you get what you want either by persuading the other side to voluntarily do what you want or by winning a lawsuit and enforcing that judgment.
If somebody else wants something from you, meaning you are a defendant, you get out of lawsuit if the other party voluntarily lets you out, or if either side wins.
You should also be aware, that, generally, than they really deserve for a number of reasons, including the policy encouraging settlement and respective burdens.
Second - start to learn the complex language that is necessary to achieve your objectives
Next, you need to be able to to your attorney, and skip providing characterizations, emotions, opinions and legal conclusions.

Third - learn about what motivates your attorney to help you and the attorney client agreement
Unless you are talking to an attorney at a non-profit or a legal clinic, the attorney is talking with you in order to get paid. So, you should understand , and if so, how much and how. Generally, attorneys get paid based on the hours they work multiplied by an hourly rate. Alternatively, some attorneys work on contingency, meaning a percentage of the amount of money obtained from the opposition. In an hourly agreement, the client is usually required to pay a .

Fourth - learn what you need to do as part of the team

Also, if you want someone to help you, help that person help you. It is a better practice to try to avoid behavior that is !
