Document List

Summary
A document list is one of the most underrated tools in litigation. There are several reasons why a document list is so important. First, it organizes a large list of documents that are otherwise cumbersome and disorganized, thereby requiring time every one of the numerous times it is accessed. Second, a document list helps the attorney (1) prepare discovery responses, because responses can be made by reference to documents; (2) prepare exhibit lists in numerous court filings, which are time consuming; (3) prepare an exhibit list before trial. So, doing the time consuming work of preparing a document list initially, both saves time later, and communicates to the opposing party that you are prepared to fight and win.
Details
A document list is an organized list of documents. Each item in the list states the exact name of the title of the document, as it appears on the face of the document. However, the list also includes various important dates related to the documents, and may include the persons associated with the document.

It gets more complicated
Obviously, this is a simple example, and a simple document list. Your case will definitely be more complicated. For example, contracts, receipts, photographs and videos are part of almost every case. Each of these documents has was is called “meta” data. Meta data is data pertaining to who created the document, where the document was stored, who has knowledge of the documents.
